Be clever, play clever, and discover how to play craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps formed from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the English, the French headed down south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the non-winning toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A great many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
