Be cunning, play brilliant, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and across the nation. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he invented the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
