Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Modern craps formed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and throughout the country. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. At another time, he created the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
