Be clever, play smart, and master craps the right way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French relocated south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
